Our Beneficiaries

The Major Beneficiary for the Rotary Club of Windsor’s 2022 fundraising event is the Windsor High School Vasconi Welding Facility – Yard Improvement Project. Because this is all about welding, we’re calling our event “SPARK SUCCESS!”

The existing welding facility has been in continuous use by 175 students each year for more than 20 years, and is in desperate need of basic improvements.  The elements of this safety and security improvement project include the installation of asphalt paving over the existing shale gravel surface, creation of a 14-foot rolling steel gate and 72-lineal foot wrought iron fence enclosure, and construction of an overhead carport to protect the students and equipment in this outdoor classroom workspace.

The students will design, fabricate and manufacture the gate and fence themselves, using CAD (computer-aided design).   What an amazing combination of art and science this will be!  Everyone in the welding facility, from instructor to students, is excited to be able to have hands-on in the creation of what will ultimately be a showcase of their both their science and computer skills and their glorious creativity.

The Windsor High School Vasconi Welding Facility has a stellar reputation not just within the high school, but throughout Sonoma County.  John Brito, the welding instructor, has created and built a program that we can all be proud of.   It has a proven track record of helping students develop real-world skills and problem-solving abilities.   This excellent skill set has allowed graduates of the welding program to be well employed in high-demand industry sectors right here in Sonoma County.

But that’s not all – we have another beneficiary too!  We are also raising money for construction of a demonstration garden at the Sonoma County Fire District Windsor Station on Old Redwood Highway that will  inform our community about the use of fire-resistant and low-water-use plants.
